Good afternoon on this beautiful yet tragic Thursday afternoon. Our So Cal news is full of horrid things today and I just couldn't handle listening to it another second. And since it was such a beautiful sunny day, I grabbed my camera & macro lens and headed outside. I didn't go far...just my yard. I don't have beautiful flowers or even a beautiful yard. But it's amazing what you can find when you really look. I only spent about 30 minutes out there, so I didn't look too hard but needed to shoot & edit. So I just shot some random stuff and played in PS!
I know...what's new right! I have this little bulb flower/plant that my mom bought me for Xmas! My husband cuts it down everytime he does yard work! So I have yet to see a flower bloom from it. After many times hearing me crab at him about it, he's worked around it. It's just starting but had dew on it this morning, so I couldn't resist getting my Macro lens out!

Same flower, different edits! Both pictures in each collage are edited to match, but each collage itself has a different edit! Fun to take the same subject and find so many different ways to edit them!

So here they are...

Edited with Lily from Lilyblue's Wallflower set...

Edited with Funky Photographers FREE action set that she shared. The set I have I do not see on her blog. So I'm thinking maybe she shared it on 2Peas or CM at some point. I've had it a while and LOVE it for fun creative edits, especially on Macro. Sorry I can't link you directly to this set, but she does have another FREE set on her blog. So check it out and while you are there...check out her work! I love her!

Edited with Lodon from Florabella's Luxe I set....

I needed something completely different because I was getting really bored with this flower bud! Lol! Edited with Red Leaf Color Vibes from the Workflow Set & Red Leaf Film Shift Washed Brighter from their Film Shift set...

So...that's it! I know...not much for it being so long since shooting Macro. But I'm just proud I got the lens out! Lol! Happy Friday!momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-48107349343867289582011-04-04T18:42:00.000-07:002011-04-04T18:56:32.460-07:00I finally shot macro....after the rain I headed outside to take advantage of all the rain drops... I call this set "The bully"... And this set "Karma"... I normally don't do b&w on flowers & macro but I wanted a more dramatic b&w for these... For this set I focused in front then on each focus further back.... Avyree's mud creation... Peaches on our tree. I set it up once to test it and make sure it worked and that was it! So I joined a 52 week macro project. I had already missed week one so when week two came around and it was dull and gray outside, I decided to pull it out and give it a go. And I LOVED it! So you will probably be seeing more macro OCF stuff from me! :) Then maybe one day I'll venture into people and OCF. But once step at a time.

The theme was fruit and or veggies. The first four are grapes in soda water...

And here is a pull back of my setup...

Thanks for looking! :)
momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-86896213558155824292010-12-03T21:16:00.000-08:002010-12-03T21:41:42.539-08:00Beauty is in the eye of the lens holder...
Oh isn't that so true! It's amazing the beauty you can find in random things with a macro lens. Things you never thought were beautiful before all of a sudden come to life! It always amazes me! Almost all of my macro shots come from my yard. We are not green thumb people...not even close. So I do not have an over abundance of gorgeous flowers to shoot. I have weeds, a few wild flowers and random odds and ends. This used to bother me. You see..I hate my yard. It's not pretty and doesn't hold a world of beautiful things to shoot. But I think this has actually helped me see past the traditional macro shots and has forced me to really look. To search to find something that intrigues me. Something that moves me. And gives me a great challenge to find something unique in a yard that lacks beauty. It's sharpened my eye and gave me the option of variety! It's made me more creative in what I shoot and how I edit it. So this reminds me that beauty can be anywhere...if you really look for it!

Today's adventure...

This lone bee had pollen packed legs which I was excited to see when I loaded them...

I think he's had enough of me! Bye bye bee...thank you for the honor...

This is the one thing I have an over abundance of....

Ivy...I actually really hate Ivy. It breeds spiders which I hate the.most! But....on this particular tree the Ivy has started to grow up and wrap around my tree. That I like....

And I also love that if shot at the right angle and crop, they look like hearts...

Dead branches in the Ivy covered tree. I love the tones and slight blue sky in the bokeh...

This is a tiny tree.weed thing. It's quite ugly in person. I knew there was a hidden shot here. I took about 20 shots of this little thing. The vines on these things are angry and stubborn. But it paid off with these two angles! Love the light and the comp....

An ugly rusty old chain link fence. I truly despise my chain link fence. I want a pretty wood gate that looks nice and gives me privacy! I'm a recluse and love my privacy. But even a rusty ugly chain link fence can be made pretty and interesting! The bokeh here is devine! This reminds me of a bunny with it's ears down...

And it's happier twin with it's ears up....

It felt good to get out the macro lens. I was feeling it today. I was wanting to get out there and shoot macro. That's when I always have the most fun and am happiest with my shots. So that is why I don't post here too often. I only shoot macro when the need is so great it fills my heart with the peace I need at that time!

So thanks for looking. I encourage you to get your macro lens out and look at the world in a different way. And if you don't have a macro lens, strap on that kit lens or wide angle lens, zoom out and get close. You'll be amazed at the detail you can get. Before I got my macro I used my little 18-55 kit lens and I still love those shots!

Happy Holidays to you and your family! May it be filled with love, friends, family and photography presents! :)
momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-58418964374565991252010-10-22T15:31:00.000-07:002010-10-22T15:57:36.827-07:00Macro with my 5D...finally!
Wow, I haven't posted here since June 9th! About a month after my last post, I bought a used Classic 5D! Needless to say, the full frame completes me and I'm over the moon with it! I've been loving is SO much that I've been so busy taking pics of people, my kids and using my new Lensbaby, that my Macro has been neglected once again! Between my 35mm 1.4L & my 85mm 1.8, I can't get enough of the full frame. I tried the Macro lens a couple times, but don't think I was in my "Macro Zen"! So I deleted every macro image I took! Lol! So today, on this once again dreary grey day, I went out determined to get some keepers and really test the macro on the full frame. And I'm proud to say I had success...well I think so! Lol! And the one great thing about shooting while it's drizzling {I covered my camera & lens..lol} or after a storm is that a macro lens & water drops can make just about anything look interesting!

Here are some I took and I thought I'd post my settings too...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/400...

ISO 640 ~ F/4.0 ~ 1/1000 {the sun peaked out from the clouds for a second while I shot this on my gate to give almost a spot light where I wanted it! Gotta love nature}...

I finally got my very first true water drop reflection shot! I'm SO excited. In that water drop is the reflection of my neighbors house..... across the street!!!!!! Three different shots, each one taking a step closer. These are all in camera crops, NO cropping down in PS...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/800...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/800...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/500... Oh yeah BABY! Sorry...I get excited easily...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/500 ~ I LOVE the tonal range in these edits....YUM...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/320...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/320 ~ 1/160 ~ 1/200 ~ SS's ranged here because some were back in the shadows...
I love the edits and tonal range on these too! Reminds me of Christmas! Must be the colors...

ISO 640 ~ f/4.0 ~ 1/500 on left shot & 1/250! 1/500 was the better exposure. I corrected it after I checked while shooting but was too lazy to reshoot the vertical! I didn't love the shot enough and was ready to go back into my beloved heater and dry off! Lol! And these were the last shots of the day...simple & clean...

Well thanks for looking! I'm really sorry I don't post here more. I always love shooting & editing macro but get so caught up in shooting everything else, that I forget! I shot a bunch of my Halloween decorations with the macro lens, but most are pull backs and not up close detail, so I'll probably put them on my Ziggy Blog instead. Oh...here is one I took for a "Stacked" challenge on 2Peas. It's macro...lol! It will be smaller because I resized it for their board at 600px wide...

momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-4320466043321783402010-06-09T12:00:00.000-07:002010-06-09T12:09:01.724-07:00Finally....some macro...
This was much needed as usual. I had a lot of fun shooting and editing them! Macro is always my happy place because I can truly be ME in shooting and editing. It's soothing and I don't have to think...just do!

So here are the pretty shots first.

I found this rather large Dandelion near my hedges in my front yard. It's not big compared to some I've seen online, but it's the biggest one I've ever had in my yard. I first shot it full then ripped it up and shot some more! Lol!

Just some small pretty flowers that the bees love as you'll see further down...

And now to the less pretty...

The insects...

Until you see a fly shot with a Macro lens zoomed in in PS, you don't know just how hairy they are...

Teeny tiny bee of some sort taking flight. I'm terrified of bees and have NEVER been stung, so this wasn't a lot of fun. But I was glad I did it after I loaded them!

I call these "Friends". I need to shoot more Macro. I love to shoot it and edit it! Here are some quick shots I took yesterday for Macro Monday on my board! Next time, I need to take my time and really search for things I really want to shoot and work the lens. I went out and took these in 5 minutes for the board. Next time is for me!

These flowers or weeds actually are so tiny! I have some stuff to catch up on (meaning about 8 folders FULL to edit) then I'm really going to take some time with my Macro lens again! I bent down to get a better look at these because they were so big and was very surprised at what I saw. Full and broken leaves. Fully formed with great detail! The second I touched any they turned to dust. Here are a few of the shots I got this morning...

momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-24363055504163978302009-08-17T22:47:00.001-07:002009-08-17T22:47:57.140-07:00Photobucket went DELETE HAPPY on me....
WARNING...this will be long and VERY negative! Ha! just warnin ya!

I've been having issues with photobucket deleting certain pics of mine! Some are of Avyree in her panties or just without a shirt on! This violates their TOS apparently! A 2 year old in just her diaper or panties! Ummm...okay! Then they deleted photos that were NOT of her nakey just with no top on! Yet, leaving some of her in JUST her panties! So I emailed them about the issue. They said they do not allow CHILD NUDITY on their site EVEN IF YOUR ACCOUNT IS SET TO PRIVATE! And they WILL delete them as THEY see fit! So I wrote back expressing my frustration and the INCONSISTENT way in which they delete photos from my account. Deleting some that are NOT against their TOS, deleting others that are just MY 2 year old with no shirt on yet leaving ones of her in just her panties and felt that their selection process was not very professional nor consistent! And that I did not appreciate no warning and just having the pics of MY children disappear that THEIR discretion! I told them I would no longer be using photobucket to host my images but unfortunately would not be able to delete my account due to MANY tuts on different boards/blogs over the past 2 years!

So for kicks about an hour or so later I went back into my account and...THIS is what I saw...

Nice huh? Basically they went through my account with a FINE TOOTH COMB and deleted pretty much EVERY pic that has Avyree with no shirt on! It's hard to keep clothes on the kid! Haha! Even pics of her in her highchair covered in chocolate ice cream. I took some while we were camping in the desert in our 5th wheel and Avyree was in the BACKGROUND with no shirt on and THEY DELETED it! So since I was an UNhappy customer and talked to customer service about why I was unhappy, they did a photo raid on me! VERY VERY PROFESSIONAL PHOTOBUCKET! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND FINE FINE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! TOP NOTCH SERVICE!

So needless to say I AM DONE WITH PHOTOBUCKET & will NEVER EVER use them!

Last time I checked...I was 33 with 2 kids! Not only are they MY images, and MY kids, I guess I was under the SAD impression that business' worked for the good of people...NOT revenge! So glad to be set straight! Point taken...on photobucket your images are NOT REALLY YOURS and you will be treated like a child and have your toys taken away without warning or care if your teeny tiny pinky toe touches that chalk line!!! Nothing like being parented from a hosting website! I also know of a bikini model photographer who photographs ADULTS with PROOF they are adults and photobucket deletes his photos too! They say that on some the front of the bikini is too small, yet will leave shots from the back of a girl wearing a g string bikini! Sound consistent to YOU? NOT to me! I feel like my images are being stolen or being held for ransom! It does NOT feel good to feel like you have no control over YOUR images and they can take them from you! YES...OF COURSE I have the full size images tucked away safely on my EHD. But there was a LOT of time taken to resize, WM etc and would take FOR-freakin-EVER to reload them all and replace the codes in my posts on my blogs!

And I am not that person that goes around complaining and bashing companies! So this is true frustration from my heart!

Why do I share my story here? Two reasons...if any screen shots are missing...THIS is why! And...be VERY careful with Photobucket. If you PISS THEM OFF, they may raid your account and go delete happy on you too!

I am in the process of trying different hosting places at the moment and have gotten lots of great help and advice on who to use! For now I'm using Flickr. But I am not finding it very convenient so I'm still researching other options!

So the tuts will still be coming and I WILL make sure that I can find a hosting site that will not PARENT the images I choose to post of MY OWN KIDS!

Phew...vent over! Ha!

momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-89447085285898810072009-08-17T14:10:00.000-07:002009-08-17T14:22:36.269-07:00Some Macro Monday stuff...
I don't know why I haven't been shooting more Macro stuff? I truly love it and it's such a happy place for me. I love taking them and editing them! I've had a lot of events lately and have 3 cards full of images in my EHD to edit, so that's probably why! Ha! Once I get caught up on my shots and after Avyree's party in two weeks, I'll be picking up this lens more!

Here are a few I took outside this morning for Macro Monday on my Family Photography Message board.

momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-85490660803245665712009-08-10T15:29:00.000-07:002009-08-10T15:33:13.047-07:00Some wild stuff..
Well, wild flowers and such! Ha! The shots themselves are not so wild. I've been neglecting my Macro lens. Not because I want to, I think I just haven't been inspired. I don't have anything pretty close by to shoot. I think it's time to go to the store and buy some flowers or something!

Here are a few snaps I took at a picnic on Sunday! Not your traditional Macro. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that too! But I am obsessed right now with Macro and stills as art! To see what I mean check out Kiwi Gal's FLICKR. She has Macro work, stills and just GREAT stuff! I am in AWE of her Macro and still work and LOVE how she is able to convert it to art! I am 500 million light years away from her, but we all have to start somewhere right?

I LOVE the reflection in the water drop here...

These remind me of Pea Pods...

And just a lil guy trying to dry off his wings...

What I love so much about Macro is you can really make it your own. You can do this with portraits too. But there is just something about being able to take a Macro and turn it into what you envision....any way you envision.

Macro for me is very relaxing. It can turn a bad day into a good one. Which is why I chose to shoot some Macros today. Just one of those days. And you know what? I DO feel better! :O)

Thanks for looking!
momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-19208530598025451282009-07-15T23:36:00.000-07:002009-07-15T23:42:33.886-07:00Little stranger...
This isn't my normal pretty things share! I was outside taking shots of water drops in the grass this morning and have no idea how I spotted this little stranger. But I'm so glad I did. I'm always amazed by these tiny guys! Why I call them guys I don't know! Ha! I love that my Macro lens can pick up detail in a spider smaller than a dime that my naked eye cannot. Some are prettier than others. I love the red on this lil guys face. It seems to give him character.

So I will call him "Red Faced Bandit"! Looks like he's wearing little blue socks! :O)

momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-34436936161035750362009-07-08T13:13:00.000-07:002009-07-08T13:22:03.422-07:00Some purty flowers...
with some purty soft edits! These are the teeny tiny wild flowers that we all have everywhere! I just love shooting these little guys with my Macro lens.

I used some LB on them and a pastel wash action from Childs Play. And a new cleaner WM...for now! :O)

Hope everyone is having a beautiful week!
momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3789063390283765769.post-36602844954058932052009-07-07T15:29:00.001-07:002009-07-07T15:29:28.078-07:00My newest obsession...FLOWERS & my Macro lens...
Before I got my Macro lens, I wasn't "into" shooting flowers. Every one in a while I'd take some flower shots if I happened to see pretty ones. But I never went out of my way to seek them, much less buy them to photograph. Well...I think I've now turned a corner to an all time low of photography related freakdom! Ha!

Everyone who knows me thinks I have totally lost ALL the marbles in my head since finding photography June 30th last year. Yep, I've had my camera almost year. And ya know what, I think they are right! But I love it and that's okay!

So I decided to try some creative edits on my flowers this time since the last ones I took I did all clean editing. It was hard at first because I worked so hard to get good crisp shots with my Macro lens to SEE the detail. The thought of fogging up and texturing my flowers shots didn't seem right. But it didn't take long for me to get going and LOVE it!

I hope you like them as much as I do...

I hope this post finds you well and thanks for stoppin by! :O)

momaziggyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623232877560755noreply@blogger.com1
